Birmingport is comprised of six terminals: Watco, Parker Towing, Ergon, Lynn Port, Mid South Paving, and Miller Company.

The Watco owned and operated terminal includes 184 acres at Birmingport with access to three Class One rails via BHRR.

The Parker Towing owns 300 acres and operates a terminal on 30 acres at Birmingport.

The Other Terminals Include Ergon (11 acres), Lynn Port (43 acres), Mid South (33 acres) and Miller Company (41 acres).

Port Location

Comprising six terminals situated west of Birmingham, Birmingport serves as a pivotal hub for transferring goods between the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River and various rail lines and interstate highways, notably I-20, I-59, I-22, I-65, and I-459. Birmingport boasts heavy-lift cranes on the northern banks of the Black Warrior River. Spanning 184 acres, the port handles an array of commodities such as steel coils, coal, project cargo, and liquid goods like ferric sulfate. Within the M‐65 Marine Highway Corridor, Birmingport offers:

  • Connectivity to the Port of Mobile (397 mile distance)
  • Alleviation of congestion on Interstate 65
  • Connects to the M‐10 corridor in Mobile and the M‐55 corridor to Cairo, Illinois.
  • Improved movement of goods on the Black Warrior River, which connects to the Tombigbee River, Alabama River, and Tennessee River for the multi-state movement of freight by water.

The EPIC Initiative brings together local government entities, regional economic development engines, and terminal owners and operators of Birmingport. This partnership aims to elevate Birmingport as a pivotal transport and logistics hub in the southeast region. The initial entities comprising the EPIC Birmingport Initiative are the City of Birmingham, Alabama, the Jefferson County, Alabama Commission, the Birmingham-Jefferson County Port Authority, and the Birmingham Business Alliance.
